FAQ
Our coffee
-
We buy exclusively specialty grade coffee with a 80+ Q score. Quality is our main focus and we are always searching for new and exciting coffees. We purchase mostly through importers and have strong relationships with that side of the supply chain. As a general rule we aim to support small businesses first. Ben’s dream is to one day be a coffee grower himself!

Best Practices
Use an airtight container: Keep your coffee beans in a sealed, airtight container to protect them from air exposure and oxidation.
Store in a cool, dark place: Keep your beans away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity. A pantry or cupboard is ideal for maintaining freshness.
Freeze beans for long-term storage: Freezing is becoming a popular method for storing coffee beans. For best results, divide your beans into small, airtight portions and freeze them. Thaw only what you need, keeping the rest frozen to extend their shelf life. For great freezer portion control check out our tubes here.
Grind only what you need: Ground coffee loses its freshness much faster than whole beans. Grind beans just before brewing to preserve flavour.

We always have a decaf option available in 250g or 1kg — find out what’s on offer here.
-
We are currently trialling the use of kerbside recyclable coffee bags. These bags do not have a valve or zipper — the breathable base releases the natural gases — and we use paper labels on all our products. So when your bag is empty, it can go straight into your recycling bin.

Ordering
-
Tin Man offers a range of coffee to suit everyone. We can narrow it down by asking a few simple questions, and most people fall into one of 3 categories.
Black coffee drinkers — we recommend filter roasts or Single Origin Espresso
White coffee drinkers — we recommend our espresso blends particularly Good Tides and Hey Ciccio.
Both — either of our blends, particularly Backgammon Blend or Single Origins.
We also recommend familiarizing yourself with processing methods to discern if you prefer washed or natural coffees.
-
If you start with a 20g recipe for either Filter or Espresso you will find that the following quantities will get you approximately the following amount of brews:
250g = 12 brews
1kg = 50 brews
Keeping in mind you may need to account for a little dialing in for your coffee which may lower these numbers slightly.
